On Monday, 15 August 2022, Minister of Transport Tālis Linkaits will go on a working visit to the Estonian City of Tartu, where he will meet with Ms Riina Sikkut, the newly appointed Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of Estonia.
The Ministers will discuss the current affairs of the Rail Baltica project and cooperation between the two countries, as well as work on the long-term development concept of the railway network in the Baltic States. The focus will be on the intention of ensuring regular passenger train traffic between Riga and Tartu. Good connectivity with Estonia is essential for Latvia, especially considering Tartu becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2024.
On his way back from Estonia, T. Linkaits will meet with Mr Vents Armands Krauklis, Chairperson of the Valka Regional Council, in Valka, get acquainted with Valka’s solutions for organizing safe traffic in the region, as well as discuss the development of cross-border public transport.
