Upon accession to the European Union (EU), significant EU funds for transport infrastructure development are available to Latvia. Latvia received 174 million EUR from the Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession (ISPA) during the period from 2000 to 2006, but after May 1, 2004 until the end of the programming period in 2006, Latvia received 181 million EUR from the Cohesion Fund(CF) and 93 million EUR from the European Regional Development Fund(ERDF).
In the EU funds programming period 2007-2013, the CF financing of 841.2 million euro and ERDF financingof 352.2 million euro was allocated to transport sector of Latvia.
